Non Slip Flooring - Pedestrian Grade
Non Slip Flooring - Vehicular Grade
Although the most common cause of slips in the workplace is contamination that has been left on the surface of the floor, when something does happen the finger of 'blame' inevitably points to the floor.
Whilst of course the floor surface is undoubtedly a hugely significant factor, it is but one of four criteria that can affect slip potential, these being:
Spillages or surface contamination e.g. water, oil, powder, food
The floor cleaning regime
Floor surface and texture
Installing an non slip floor surface, with its associated costs and downtime, need not neccessarily be the first option.
Can the source of spillages or surface contamination be eliminated by altering processes or installing a drain? If so, this may resolve issues simply and easily and should be considered as the first option.
Is the cleaning regime as effective as it should be?
Are spillages being cleaned up promptly to minimise the possibility of slippages?
Is there an emegency spillage kit and process in place?
Would the introduction of non-slip footwear eliminate or minimise the problem again it should be considered.
If, in conjunction with any of the above, the installation of a positive anti-slip texture floor is deemed a necessity it should also be understood that this will result in a floor that is more difficult to clean. This should be perceived as a side issue - an inconvenience to be managed and overcome - whereas the slippage issue is one of health and safety and should be prioritised over cleaning issues.
Anti-slip epoxy resin floor coatings are hard wearing, chemically resistant and available in a range of colours. The systems encapsulate anti-slip grains (usually silica sand, polymer beads or bauxite) and are available in various degrees of coarseness depending on the degree of slip resistance required.
Our anti-slip coating systems use high strength resins that are suitable for application onto concrete or metal surfaces and provide a seamless finish for application not only inside industrial premises but also in theme parks, football stadia and other public areas.
Anti-slip floor finishes for vehicles such as fork lift trucks, vans, cars or lorries have to be more substantial than that required for foot traffic.
To cope with the rigours of heavy vehicles, particularly in areas of wheel turning circles such as loading bays or the end of aisleways, a heavier duty base resin is required to 'embed and hold' the non slip aggregate (usually bauxite or coarse silica sand) in-situ before over-coating with additional seal coats in order to fully encapsulate the aggregate to prevent it being 'plucked out'.
